What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is extremely popular in North America and has been used in Europe for the past 50 years with some fantastic results.
Mesotherapy is almost a science of its own and was originally a medical technique developed by a French doctor, Dr Michel Pistor in the 1950s. It was used to treat such conditions as rheumatology, vascular diseases and poor circulation. In recent years, it has become more and more popular for treating cellulite and localised fat, especially in France where Mesotherapy is extremely popular and every medical doctor is trained in Mesotherapy as part of their general medical training.
What is Cellulite?
Over time, localised fat cells enlarge causing a reduction in blood flow and drainage to these areas of the body. This can starve the area of oxygen and reduce the body’s ability to remove toxins from the area.
These fat cells become connected to fibrous tissue and results in the dreaded lumpy 'orange peel' effect or dimpled appearance on the surface of the skin. Cellulite is particularly a problem on the hips, thighs and bottom.
For some women cellulite is only noticeable when the area is ‘pinched’ but for others it can be a terribly visible and painful condition that often affects confidence and daily life. Cellulite can affect women of all ages irrespective of their weight.
MYTH: Cellulite is not a problem of being overweight – even supermodels suffer from cellulite!
Over 90% of women have some degree of cellulite and even some men too. It usually appears between the ages of 25-35 and worsens over time.
Mesotherapy for Localised Stubborn Fat
Irrespective of whether someone is overweight or not, many people are troubled by stubborn areas of localised fat which can be difficult to get rid of, even with a sensible diet and an active lifestyle. Mesotherapy can help to remove these stubborn fatty areas.
In women, fat cells on the lower half of the body store fat around 6 times more readily than those on the upper half. They also release fat around six times less easily so this can make weight loss from the lower half terribly difficult if not almost impossible.
Mesotherapy works by modifying the makeup of fat cells and by blocking the signals that tell our bodies to store fat. This simultaneously triggers the release of stored fat in the areas treated. Vitamins and amino acids are used to tighten sagging skin while other agents are used to remove areas of fat, restoring a more youthful and more toned appearance to the body's contours.
Improving the look of the face and neck
As we age the skin on our face and neck can start to sag, fat can be gained or lost in different areas of the face; changing the contour and making us appear much older. By using antioxidants and amino acids, mesotherapy can remove fat deposits under the chin, fat bags under the eyes and firm up any loose skin both on the face, neck and decollate.
Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the skin. It plumps the skin giving the face a more youthful appearance. As we age levels of hyaluronic acid deplete making the skin lose its youthful appearance. Mesotherapy anti-aging face treatments contain Hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, amino acids to help restore youthful looking skin and also plump up fine lines.
The treatment can be lasting and results are measurable. Once optimum results are achieved maintenance treatments are advisable to maintain the desired effect.
Advantages and Side effects
There are many advantages with the Mesotherapy treatment.
The treatment only requires small measures of the medication and is delivered directly into the problem area. This also dramatically reduces any side-effects and makes the treatment available to more people.
The side-effects of the treatment are relatively minor and some people experience no side-effects at all. Slight redness or swelling is possible but resolves itself within a couple of days.
What does it involve?
Mesotherapy involves a series of very small (micro) injections - injecting small and measured amounts of different medications just under the skin to help treat the cellulite and localised trapped fat, improve circulation and lymphatic and venous drainage. The injected mixture of meso-products dissolve the outer layers of the fat cells in the skin enabling the dissolved fat to be excreted through the bloodstream by the kidneys and bowel giving the skin a more contoured and toned appearance.
How long does the treatment take?
Each treatment takes around 30-45 minutes and is generally not painful. You can return to your normal daily routine or work afterwards.
A topical anaesthetic cream can be applied if preferred. Treatment is usually given weekly or two-weekly over a period of about ten to fifteen weeks.
How much does treatment cost?
A single treatment for the face starts from £40
A single treatment for the body starts from £80
Mesotherapy Anti Aging for the face starts from £100
